Using your air fryer to make buttermilk fried chicken lets you enjoy one of your favorite fried foods without all the guilt or the mess of deep-frying.

  • 6 ounces potato chips any kind or flavor
  • pounds boneless chicken breast
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour **
  • ½ teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • vegetable or canola oil
  • dipping sauce for serving
  1. Using a food processor, pulse the potato chips into coarse crumbs. Alternatively, place chips in a zip lock bag, pushing out as much air as possible, and roll a rolling pin over the bag to crush the chips. Place the crushed chips in a bowl or shallow dish. You should have about 2 cups of crushed chips.
  2. Whisk the eggs and milk together in a small bowl.
  3. Cut the chicken into 1- to 2-inch pieces and place them in a zip lock bag (you can use the same one used to crush the chips).

  4. Combine the flour, paprika, salt and black pepper and add the flour mixture to the bag with the chicken pieces. Seal the bag and gently shake to coat all the chicken pieces with flour.
  5. Working with a few pieces at a time, shake off any excess flour, dip the floured chicken into the egg mixture and then coat each piece with the crushed potato chips.

  6. Pre-heat the air fryer to 400°F.
  7. Air-fry the chicken in batches to avoid over-crowding. Place a single layer of the coated chicken in the air fryer basket or tray. Spritz with a little oil and air-fry for 6 minutes. Turn the chicken over and air-fry for an additional 2 to 3 minutes, until the chicken is crispy and cooked through. After the last batch has finished cooking, return all the chicken to the air fry for 1 minute to make sure they are all warm for serving.

  8. Serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauce.
**To make Gluten Free Chicken Nuggets, substitute the flour with potato flakes or gluten free flour.
To make in the Oven – Place coated nuggets on a cooling rack over a baking sheet and bake at 400°F for 15 to 20 minutes, turning the chicken over halfway through the cooking process.
